Smart Essay writing tips

Paragraph 3. The opposite opinion

To begin your paragraph You will be setting the opposite opinion on the proposed topic or question. It can be done like this:

  • Others believe that …
  • However, some people think that …

Followed by 1-2 argument supporting the opposite opinion. I advise you to think about two. And how in the end to write: 1 or 2 – choose the process based on the resulting size of Your essay.

Tip: the Opposite argument, and You then have to challenge, so coming up with them initially, think about how You are going to challenge them. If you invented an argument You have nothing to argue, it is better to replace it with another, not to do this while writing essays. It, too, is limited!

Tip: When challenging arguments, You don’t have to repeat anything written in the second paragraph. So if You can’t come up with a counter argument, not repeating, try to think of something else. Alternatively, You can think of other arguments “for”, while the essay is not yet written. In any case, it is better to consider initially, while You make an essay plan, rather than in the process of writing!

Paragraph 4. Your counter

The essence of this paragraph is to explain why You disagree with the opposite opinion. To start a paragraph, for example, offers:

  • I cannot agree with this opinion because …
  • I am afraid I cannot agree with this idea because …
  • A bit weird “I am afraid”, not “I’m afraid”, but it is better not to cut, because it can backfire precious points.

NOTE: if You have given two arguments in the previous paragraph, then it is necessary to refute both. To distinguish between them in the following phrases:

As for …,

Speaking about the …

As far as … is concerned,

Tip: If the refutation of opposing arguments it is best to offer their solutions, not to prove their incapacity. For example, if someone believes that Pets are dangerous, it is not necessary to argue that they, in fact, harmless. It is better to turn this disadvantage into a advantage, saying that they are excellent guards in country houses.

Paragraph 5. Conclusion

The most common mistake of many students : in the end, they just Express their opinion. It’s not enough. Because the conclusion refers to the whole essay and not just to the second paragraph.

Thus, in conclusion it is necessary to summarize all that was said in the essay and to Express their point of view. You can also give your recommendations for the existing problem. Most importantly, in conclusion, there should be no new information.

I would recommend lexically to indicate that next there will be a conclusion. To start a paragraph like this:

  • In conclusion, …
  • To conclude, …

Next, give the reader to understand that there are two points of view on this issue, and despite the opposite point of view, we still adhere to our. For example, it can be done according to the following scheme:

Despite the fact that …, I am convinced that …

Taking into consideration different opinions on this issue, I believe that …

Language design essay

Once You wrote the exam an English essay, be sure to revisit it again for possible mistakes. From my experience the most common errors I advise you to pay attention to the following things:

Run separately for all nouns. If the noun is countable and singular, in front of him must be article! Most likely, it is you have to be uncertain (but see ourselves in context).

Go through all the introductory words and phrases and make sure they are after the commas. Before the word ‘that’, on the contrary, the comma should not be: “I think that …”, “Others believe that …”.

If the subject expressed in a 3 person singular (he/she/it) does not forget to ascribe to the verb ending –s!

Regarding “smart” words separate conversation. In evaluation criteria, there is a separate item: Vocabulary. Believe me, it is better not to use a clever word than to use it incorrectly and get minus points.

Tip: If You don’t know many “smart” vocabulary, to the maximum shove it in a pre-memorized phrase. For example, instead of the banal “for example” you can use “for instance”; instead of “I think” use “I believe / suppose / presume”. That is, in fact, You need to come up with the vocabulary that You will be able to use in Your English paper, whatever theme You may come across.
